Four-Ball Tournament

The 4-Ball tournament is an optional season-long match play tournament played by 2-person teams. Team handicaps determine flights; partners handicaps must be within 10 strokes of one another, otherwise the higher handicap player will be adjusted. 

Each team competes against teams in their flight (typically 4 or 5 teams per flight) on days/times deemed mutually convenient for all 4 players.  All play is net and handicap strokes are allocated based on the lowest handicap player in the 4-some. The low net score of each team determines the winner of each hole: 1 point for a win, ½ point for a tie and 0 points for a loss.  The total points in each match equal 18; teams accumulate points for each match played during the season. Prizes go to the 1st and 2nd place winners in each flight.

Sign up at the Grand Haven Golf Shop with your payment of $50 per team by October 7th.  Matches can begin at any time once the new greens are open for play.  Let the golf staff know in advance when you are playing a match and they will prepare scorecards for you.  You can play on any day mutually convenient for all golfers, except a Tuesday when Stableford is being played.  The difference between partner's handicaps may not exceed 10 strokes on the day matches are played. If so, the higher handicap player's strokes will be reduced. All matches must be completed by April 30th, 2026, and it is strongly suggested that at least one match is completed by the end of 2025.

When a match is completed, please send an email with the match results (points per team) to Pat Larsen. The results will be posted to the website. IF a match ends in a 9-9 tie, save the scorecard and leave it in the golf shop.  The entry fee is $25 per person, payable to GHWGA and must be paid before matches begin. Prizes are awarded at the GHWGA Closing Day.
